Plenty of side-to-side ankle support to stop you twisting your ankle, but very little front-to-back so you can flex your foot and point your toe with comfort, they don't cut off circulation. Im a US size 7, on the sizing chart as UK 6.5, ended up getting UK size 5 and it fits perfectly-- so just be aware that it may run big. Although I'm sure you'd have no problem with returns as the customer service people are understanding and speedy with responses.
